Guangzhou Ditches Homebuying Curbs in Some Districts to Boost Sales
Listen to the full version
Guangzhou has become the first of China’s four top-tier cities to scrap homebuying curbs in some districts, intensifying efforts to support housing sales after previous measures failed to meaningfully revive the market.
The capital of Guangdong province announced on Wednesday that limits on the number of homes a household can buy no longer apply to five of the city’s 11 districts and some parts of Baiyun district where the airport is located. For the past few years, a household with a Guangzhou registration, or hukou (户口), could buy a maximum of two residential properties, while a qualified household without a local registration could only buy one.
